Okay, my loves… I have never said this on Aye’Candy before.
But Spice Island Beach Resort? All sweet. Nothing sour. 🍬
New here? Welcome to Aye’Candy Unwrapped & Unpacked™, where I unwrap and unpack the sweet and the sour of some of the most delicious experiences out there… resorts, destinations, dining, and everything in between. Glossy brochures only tell part of the story, so I go myself and come back with the truth. Every review breaks down three ways:
- 🍬 The Sweet: what I loved and what makes it special
- 🍋 The Sour: the honest considerations to know before you book
- 🎁 Best For: who this experience is truly perfect for
I walked this property myself during my recent trip to Grenada, one of my favorite Caribbean island destinations. I toured the suites, the spa, the fitness center, and every little corner in between. By the time I left, I understood exactly why this resort has the reputation it does. So let’s unpack it together… what I loved, what you should know as a couple, and who this resort is truly perfect for.
The Resort at a Glance
Spice Island Beach Resort sits right on Grand Anse Beach in St. George’s, Grenada. The resort spreads across eight acres of beachfront and tropical gardens, and it is an intimate, all-inclusive property rather than a sprawling mega-resort.

What makes it special is the heart behind it. The resort traces its story to its late founder, Sir Royston Hopkin, a Grenadian whose vision was service that feels like family. You feel that the moment you arrive.
The accolades speak for themselves. The resort holds a AAA Five Diamond award, is part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, has been recognized with a MICHELIN Key, and is Green Globe certified for its sustainability work.
And you’ll be in good company. Over the years, Spice Island has welcomed royalty and stars alike, including King Charles and Queen Camilla during their Caribbean tour as the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, Princess Anne, Prince Harry, “The Voice” winner Tessanne Chin, and Julio Iglesias Jr.
- Location: Grand Anse Beach, St. George’s, Grenada
- Style: Intimate, all-inclusive
- Setting: Eight acres of beachfront and tropical gardens
- Nearby: Spiceland Mall, about a 7-minute walk
- Families: Welcome; kids have The Nutmeg Pod activity center
- Closest airport: Maurice Bishop International Airport (GND)
🍬 The Sweet: What I Loved
The suites. This is where Spice Island had me. The beachfront suites open right onto the sand, so your morning starts with the ocean just steps from your door. Other suites feature private plunge pools and open-air garden terraces, so you get your own little hideaway. Every space I walked through felt calm, fresh, and thoughtfully designed. This is a suite you actually want to spend time in, not just sleep in.

The spa. Janissa Spa is pure peace. The resort leans into locally sourced ingredients, and the whole space invites you to slow down and breathe. For my brides, I can already picture a wedding morning that begins here… calm, centered, and cared for before the excitement of the day kicks in.

The fitness center. Okay, I didn’t expect to get excited about a gym on vacation, but here we are. It’s a space that actually makes you want to work out. For the couple who is still keeping up with their wedding-day goals, or the guest who doesn’t skip a workout, this is a real bonus. And it’s included.
The service. Everything I saw lined up with the resort’s family-style hospitality. Warm, attentive, and personal. That matters to me, because I only recommend places where I know my couples and their guests will be taken care of.
The little touches. Let’s start with the wristband. It’s new, cute, and classy, and you can take it off to shower. Whew, I loved that! You’re also given a cell phone to reach the front desk, and they answer by the first ring… okay, let’s say the second, just in case I’m wrong. Either way, they always answer with a smile.
The all-inclusive experience. Dining, premium-label drinks, in-room mini bars, non-motorized water sports, and fitness access are all part of the experience. Your guests can relax and enjoy themselves without reaching for their wallets every five minutes. That’s a big part of a seamless guest experience.
The food, drinks, and entertainment. Can we talk about the barbecue? Simply incredible. It reminded me of Chicago barbecue with a Caribbean flair, and I’m still thinking about it. Breakfast was amazing every morning, and the drinks were great and strong. 😉 Add a live band and singer, and entertainment was plentiful.

The heart behind the harvest. This is the part that got me. When the resort closed for a period during COVID, the team began growing and cultivating their own gardens. Those gardens kept growing, and today much of the fresh fruit and vegetables on your plate come from the team’s own personal gardens. Spice Island buys that produce from its own people, encouraging entrepreneurship and providing opportunity, not just jobs. After seeing that, it’s no wonder so many of them have stayed for years.
The location. Real talk… my luggage ended up in Miami. Not the arrival I planned! But Spice Island is about a seven-minute walk from Spiceland Mall, so I walked over and grabbed what I needed to get through until my bags arrived. The location is great, and I felt safe walking around the area. Planner tip: always pack a swimsuit and a change of clothes in your carry-on.
My favorite moment. Dinner with Janelle Hopkin and the team. So many of the people here have been with Spice Island for years… they are the senior mamas and senior papas of this resort. Sitting at that table, hearing their stories, and feeling how much they love this place, I understood where that family feeling comes from. Here, it isn’t a slogan. It’s the people.

Spice Island Beach Resort Weddings: Saying “I Do”
If you’re dreaming of an intimate wedding with your closest people, Spice Island deserves a spot on your list. The resort hosts weddings of up to 35 guests, which keeps the celebration personal and meaningful.
Ceremony settings. Exchange vows barefoot on Grand Anse Beach with the green mountains rising to the east, or choose a more private moment in the resort’s tropical gardens. A beach or garden gazebo setting is part of the resort’s wedding package, and other locations may be requested for an additional fee.

Wedding packages. The resort offers an Island Wedding Package that includes a decorated ceremony setting, flowers, champagne, cake, a private dinner on your own terrace, and the required documents and fees. Couples celebrating again can choose the Vow Renewal Package.
Enhancements. Photography and video, additional florals, spa services like manicures, pedicures, and couples massages, plus entertainment options including a private steel band or live band.
Legal or symbolic. The resort supports a documented legal process for couples who want to marry legally in Grenada. Some couples choose to handle the legal paperwork at home and have a symbolic ceremony on the beach instead. Both are beautiful options, and the right choice depends on your timeline and comfort level.
Here’s where I come in. The resort’s on-site wedding team takes beautiful care of the property, the setup, and the catering. I take care of you. From your guest room block and travel planning to the timeline, the design, the welcome party, and every wedding-weekend detail, my destination wedding planning is designed so you actually get to enjoy being engaged. You can see how I support couples in my Planning Collections.
Honeymooning at Spice Island
One of my favorite things about a wedding here is that your honeymoon can begin the very next morning. No packing up, no airport, no rushing. Just you two, the beach, and slow island days.
At the time of writing, the resort’s honeymoon offer includes a complimentary massage for each of you, champagne in your suite on arrival, and a sunset cruise. It requires a minimum five-night stay and proof that your wedding took place within 12 months of your trip. Offers change, so I always confirm the current details before we book.
And if you’re honeymooning in Grenada, please get off property at least once! The island is only 21 miles long and full of rainforest, waterfalls, spice tours, and incredible local food. Ask me about a sail day… it was one of the highlights of my trip. I design honeymoons and travel experiences with moments like these built right in.
🍋 Not Sour, Just Smart: What to Know Before You Book
No sour this time, I promise. But here’s the planner in me, because a beautiful resort still needs a smart plan.
- Guest count. With weddings of up to 35 guests, this is truly an intimate celebration. If your list is bigger, let’s talk through options before you fall in love.
- Book early. An intimate resort means fewer suites. If you want your favorite people under one roof, securing your room block early matters.
- Getting there. Guests fly into Maurice Bishop International Airport (GND). Flight options vary by city, so I review routes for your guests before we set your date.
- Timing and weather. Like much of the Caribbean, Grenada has a hurricane season. We plan your date, your rain plan, and travel insurance guidance with that in mind.
- Legal paperwork. If you want a legal ceremony in Grenada, documents need to be prepared ahead of time. I’ll walk you through what’s required so nothing is last minute.
- Accessibility. If anyone in your group uses a wheelchair or has mobility needs, I confirm suite access, pathways, and ceremony locations directly with the resort before you book.
🎁 Who Spice Island Is Best For
- Couples planning an intimate destination wedding with their closest family and friends
- Honeymooners who want privacy, beach access, and slow, restful days
- Couples who value warm, personal service over a big, busy resort scene
- Vow renewals and anniversary trips
- Families who want an elevated stay with activities for the little ones
It’s less of a fit for:
- Weddings with more than 35 guests
- Couples who want on site nightlife, casinos, or a big resort with lots going on
- Couples who want an adults-only resort, since families stay here too
The Aye’Candy Verdict
🍬 All sweet. Nothing sour.
Spice Island Beach Resort is intimate, warm, beautifully kept, and right on one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. I visit resorts in person so that when I recommend a place to my couples, I already know exactly what they’re getting. This one, I recommend with my whole heart.
