AVA Resort Cancun Destination Wedding Review
An Honest Review from a Destination Wedding Planner
Beautiful photos are sweet…
But firsthand experience is even sweeter.
As a multi-certified destination wedding planner, wedding designer, travel designer, former corporate meeting planner for a major airline, and Flight Attendant, I don’t evaluate resorts the same way most travelers do.
When I visit a resort, I’m asking questions like:
• Will Grandma easily find her room?
• Is the ceremony flow practical?
• Will my wedding party have enough getting-ready space?
• Is the food consistently good for 100+ guests?
• Can my couples actually trust this resort with the most important weekend of their lives?
Welcome to another edition of Aye’Candy Unwrapped & Unpacked™, where I share The Sweet, The Sour, and Everything In Between.
This time, we’re unwrapping AVA Resort Cancun.

Resort Overview
Location: Cancun, Mexico
Collection: AIC Hotel Group
Style: Modern Luxury All-Inclusive
Perfect For:
• Destination Weddings
• Multi-generational families
• Couples with children
• Teen-friendly weddings
• Group celebrations
• Corporate incentive groups
One thing became obvious almost immediately…
This resort feels intentionally designed for groups.
Instead of spending your vacation walking endless hallways or trying to remember which elevator gets you back to your room, AVA has a surprisingly intuitive layout. Although it’s a large property, it never felt overwhelming.
🍬 The Sweet: First Impressions

Walking into AVA immediately feels elevated.
The lobby is absolutely stunning, and if you know me, you know the pink accents instantly caught my attention.
Even better than the aesthetics?
The scent.
Yes…the resort actually smells amazing.
That may sound like a small detail, but when you’re hosting hundreds of wedding guests, every sensory experience matters.
The atmosphere feels polished, upscale, energetic, and welcoming without being stuffy.
Who This Resort Is Perfect For
I would confidently recommend AVA Resort Cancun for:
✔ Contemporary professional couples
✔ Couples hosting 50–150 guests
✔ Families traveling with children
✔ Weddings with teenagers attending
✔ Couples who prioritize excellent food
✔ Couples wanting a luxury feel without the ultra-luxury price tag
✔ Guests with mobility concerns
✔ Couples wanting an easy airport transfer
This is also an excellent choice for couples who want most of their wedding weekend to happen on property rather than constantly arranging off-site excursions.

Who This Resort May NOT Be Best For
AVA may not be your perfect fit if:
• You picture walking directly from your resort into Cancun’s hotel zone nightlife.
• Your dream wedding absolutely requires a classic “toes in the sand” beach ceremony.
While AVA does have a beach venue, its true standout wedding spaces are its beautifully designed oceanfront event locations rather than a long stretch of expansive swimmable beach.
Airport & Arrival Experience
One of AVA’s biggest advantages is its location.
After a flight, your vacation begins quickly because the transfer from Cancun International Airport is refreshingly short.
For destination weddings, that’s a huge advantage.
After traveling internationally, guests appreciate spending less time on a bus and more time relaxing.
During my visit, transfers were organized, easy to locate, and accommodating—even when travel plans changed unexpectedly.
As a planner managing dozens of arriving guests, that reliability matters.
Wedding Venues

One thing AVA does exceptionally well is creating ceremony spaces that photograph beautifully.
Beach Venue
Best For:
• Ceremonies
• Cocktail Hour
• Reception
Capacity: Approximately 100 guests
Couples wanting an intimate beach ceremony will appreciate the soft sand and beautiful Caribbean backdrop.
Oceanfront Terrace

This was one of my favorite wedding locations.
The panoramic ocean views create an incredible ceremony backdrop while providing a more polished, contemporary setting than a traditional beach ceremony.
It works beautifully for:
• Wedding ceremonies
• Cocktail hours
• Receptions
One planner note…
The stunning glass walkway leading into the ceremony space creates incredible photographs, but because much of the area is exposed to the sun, consider offering guests:
- Elegant handheld fans
- Chilled bottled water
- White parasols or umbrellas
- A welcome beverage before the ceremony
These small touches elevate guest comfort tremendously.
Guest Rooms

This was my favorite part of the entire resort.
Every single room features an ocean view.
Every.
Single.
Room.
As a planner, I love that every guest—from the couple’s parents to their college friends—receives a premium experience instead of wondering who got the “good room.”
The rooms felt:
✓ Spotlessly clean
✓ Spacious
✓ Quiet
✓ Modern
✓ Comfortable
My favorite features included:
• Balcony jacuzzi
• Comfortable sitting area
• Coffee station
• Excellent storage
• Robes and slippers
• Walk-in shower with built-in bench
• Large vanity
• Bathroom window allowing you to enjoy the ocean view (and even the TV) while getting ready
• USB charging ports
• Plenty of electrical outlets
• Well-stocked minibar
• Snacks beyond the usual chips and drinks, including nuts, granola, dried fruit, and more
• No carpet (a huge plus for cleanliness)
Room service was excellent.
Honestly…
You could spend an entire day enjoying the room and never feel like you were missing anything.
Food & Beverage

This surprised me—in the best possible way.
I’ve visited many all-inclusive resorts.
AVA delivered one of the best culinary experiences I’ve had.
Instead of food sitting in warming trays for extended periods, many buffet offerings are freshly prepared at live cooking stations.
That made a tremendous difference in both quality and presentation.
Highlights:
• Fresh preparation
• Excellent seasoning
• Great restaurant variety
• Fast service
• Minimal waiting
• Attentive staff
The chefs clearly care about flavor—not just feeding large crowds.
For destination weddings, that’s incredibly important because food is often one of the first things guests remember.
Guest Experience
AVA makes guests feel like VIPs.
Welcome drinks.
Friendly staff.
Helpful concierge teams.
Easy navigation.
Quick airport access.
Beautiful accommodations.
Activities for every age.
Whether you’re traveling with toddlers, teenagers, grandparents, or friends, there’s enough happening on property that guests won’t feel pressured to leave the resort.
Accessibility
As someone who often travels with older family members, accessibility is something I intentionally evaluate.
AVA performed extremely well.
Highlights include:
• Convenient elevators
• Well-placed ramps
• Straightforward layout
• Easy navigation
• Minimal confusion
I could comfortably recommend this property for grandparents and guests with mobility concerns.
Photography Opportunities
AVA offers countless locations for memorable wedding and vacation photography, including:
- The dramatic pink-accented lobby for editorial-style arrival photos.
- The glass walkway overlooking the ocean, ideal for first looks and bridal portraits.
- Oceanfront terraces at sunrise and golden hour.
- Balcony jacuzzi scenes with the Caribbean Sea in the background.
- Infinity pool reflections for romantic evening portraits.
- Modern architectural hallways and open-air corridors with clean lines.
- Beachfront ceremonies framed by turquoise water.
- Elevated restaurants with beautifully plated cuisine for lifestyle content.
- Nighttime lighting around the resort for elegant reception and cocktail images.
From a content creator’s perspective, AVA provides enough visual variety that couples can capture an entire wedding weekend without repeating the same backdrop.
Group Travel Experience
This resort was clearly designed with groups in mind.
As a destination wedding planner, I noticed:
✔ Easy meeting points
✔ Plenty of restaurants
✔ Activities for all ages
✔ Convenient transportation
✔ Comfortable room layouts
✔ Efficient check-in process
✔ Excellent guest flow
For destination weddings, those operational details make a tremendous difference.
Planner Tips
If you’re planning your wedding at AVA, I would recommend:
• Schedule your ceremony later in the afternoon to avoid the strongest sun.
• Provide fans or parasols for guests during outdoor ceremonies.
• Take advantage of the oceanfront terrace for portraits before sunset.
• Host a welcome party on your first evening since guests arrive quickly from the airport.
• Build extra time into your wedding morning to enjoy the spacious bridal suites and salon.
• Consider personalized welcome gifts in guest rooms, such as a handwritten note, local treats, or a bottle of champagne, to enhance the guest experience.
Hidden Gems
Some of my favorite details weren’t the ones featured in the brochure:
- Every guest enjoys an ocean-view room, creating a consistent premium experience.
- The stocked snack selection is far better than what you’ll find at many all-inclusive resorts.
- The layout makes a large property feel surprisingly manageable.
- The signature resort scent creates a memorable first impression.
- The combination of live cooking stations and buffet convenience offers the best of both worlds.
- The quiet guest rooms have excellent sound insulation, making them ideal for families and wedding weekends.
Things the Brochure Doesn’t Tell You
Brochures highlight beautiful pools and beaches.
Here’s what stood out to me as a planner:
- Your guests won’t spend half the day trying to find each other because the property is intuitive to navigate.
- Even standard guest rooms feel elevated thanks to the ocean views and thoughtful amenities.
- The food quality consistently exceeded what many travelers expect from an all-inclusive.
- The short airport transfer means your wedding weekend starts almost immediately after landing.
- Small operational details, like attentive staff and convenient accessibility, reduce stress for couples and guests alike.
Mistakes Couples Should Avoid
- Assuming a beach ceremony is your only option. The oceanfront terrace may provide a more comfortable and equally stunning setting.
- Not considering guest comfort during sunny outdoor ceremonies.
- Waiting too long to schedule group dining and wedding weekend activities.
- Underestimating how much time you’ll want to spend enjoying your room and the resort itself.
- Skipping a professional planner who can coordinate room blocks, transportation, wedding timelines, and communication between your vendors and the resort team.

🍋 The Sour
I always believe in sharing an honest perspective.
During my stay, the television stopped working on my final evening. Several members of our group experienced the same issue, so it appeared to be a temporary system-wide glitch rather than an isolated problem.
Because everything else about the stay was consistently excellent, I view this as a minor operational hiccup rather than a significant concern.

What impressed me most wasn’t just how beautiful it looked—it was how intentionally the resort supports the overall wedding weekend experience.
That’s exactly the type of property I feel confident recommending to my couples.
